Review of the Royal Ballet’s triple bill of In the Golden Hour, Medusa and Flight Pattern. This was a interesting triple bill by the Royal Ballet. It balanced an easy to watch, engaging and joyous piece with two more abstract and emotional pieces to create a dance experience that the Company performed exceptionally well.

Review of Don Quixote by the Royal Ballet, streamed from the Royal Opera House, 19th Feb 2019
Following the first production of La Bayadere the Petersburg Gazette wrote of choreographer Marius Petipa, “Watching the new ballet, one is just astonished at the inexhaustible imagination our ballet master possesses. All the dances are marked with freshness and colour, novelty in the groupings, richness of invention, intelligence of story and coordination with the place of action.”
This is certainly not a ballet to watch if you need cheering up! But if you want to see a tormented protagonist, an anguished set of mistresses and wives and a tragic story portrayed with the highest technical ballet skill and powerful acting – step right up!
BRB dance a truly English style of ballet. You can feel the influence of Cecchetti through Ninette de Valois, through David Bintley (Director) to the Company today. But most importantly you feel their connections with each other. This company has heart and I think this is the reason BRB are so enjoyable to watch.
