Collection Inspiration

The inspiration for our designs

The inspiration for Ballet Rocks t-shirts has come from well-loved ballets, high-street fashion and illustration trends creating a unique collection of original designs for you to enjoy. The current collection is quite diverse in its range of designs as we want students, professionals, teachers and balletomanes of all ages to love our t-shirts.

Take the Word Art t-shirt. You’ve probably seen framed prints of word art to hang on your walls, some you can even personalise, so how about one for ballet, and Cecchetti ballet at that! We took a beautiful outline of a ballerina in attitude croise and filled her with the words that fill our ballet lives. Our designer carefully chose where to place each word to fill the shape of her body accurately so the beauty of the position was retained. He played with fonts and font sizes to create a detailed landscape of vocabulary which looks like a dancer from a distance, but close up reveals much more!

Next the ‘Ballet’ deep v-neck t-shirt. A flattering style, immensely practical to dance in that looks fab with bold lettering across it. On the high-street you might see it says, ‘Lemonade’, ‘Brooklyn’ or ‘Happy’. Ours says ‘Ballet’ – because that is what we have an emotional connection to. Simple!

The Giselle t-shirt was inspired by a Porselli t-shirt I had as a teenager which had a simple line illustration of a pas de deux on it. I felt that a range of t-shirts featuring poses from iconic ballets could be popular, and Giselle was my first choice. This was a time-consuming design for Turi, who worked from several photos of ballerinas in this pose to include just the right amount of line illustration without over-complicating the overall effect. You’ll see the skirt is suggested and not over-worked, as we wanted to convey the elegance and beauty of this iconic position without too much detail. I hope that this t-shirt will inspire us when we wear it to dance in, and to start a conversation with our students about the beauty of our art form. There will be more to follow in this series, so if you’ve got a favourite pose from a ballet to suggest – please get in touch!

And finally the Ballet Rocks logo vest. Read more about how the logo was created here. We’ve had such a positive reaction to our stunning and clever logo that we’ve printed it in our brand colours of pink and grey on a vest which is perfect to dance in.

We hope you enjoy the collection and we look forward to bringing you new styles, designs and colours very soon.
